You’ll Never Walk Alone

Have you ever heard someone say, “I am so alone, I wish I had somebody with me?”  Others get depressed by the fact that they are lonely and there’s nothing much they can do about it.  No matter what a thoughts a single Christian has in this vein, most will know until something changes that it’s just you and there’s nobody else.

Loneliness is a sad feeling that all Christian singles get because by default we have to do a lot of things on our own. One dictionary definition for lonely is “sad from being apart from other people” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary).  This can easily be fixed by not staying at home and feeling sorry for yourself but to get out and do things with friends and family (including church and extended).

It is the alone feeling that most Christian singles struggle with.  Alone, in the dictionary is described as “without anyone or anything else” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). This mindset of “me and only me” is one that needs to change.  While this mindset is true to a degree, single Christians tend to forget the fact that they have God.  He tells us this in Joshua 1:5

No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. (NIV)

The plain and simple truth is that although you may get lonely at times, you are never alone because God is with you.  When you take hold of this fact, your life will change for the better as the sadness of being alone is replaced by the happiness and knowledge that God is there.  God is the missing piece – the one who will end your feelings of being alone.  When you accepted Him into your life you accepted a life-long companion – somebody who will always be with you through thick and thin.  You can turn to him during the lonely times, knowing that He is there and feel the comfort of his arms.

There is one mindset you really need to remember as a Christian single and that it is not “me and only me” but it’s “God and me.”
